Coulter Concert Series

Please join us for the next event in our ongoing Coulter Concert series. For 2021/22, we are planning five beautiful
concerts to coincide with the liturgical season and feature guest musicians who will bring the highest level of artistry to the St. John the Baptist community and beyond. Our first two concerts are set, and we are thrilled that Barbara Baird, an internationally acclaimed organist, will inaugurate the season on Sunday, November 7 at 4pm. She will play an hour long program of Buxtehude, Bach, Mendelssohn, Brahms, and Langlais that will exploit the full tonal capabilities of our newly revamped organ, including the recently added horizontal trumpets.

Dr. Barbara Baird has been a member of the University of Oregon music faculty since 1988, teaching organ, harpsichord, and piano. An active recitalist since 1971, Baird has performed throughout the United States as well as Argentina, Brazil, Europe and Australia. A frequent adjudicator and clinician, she regularly conducts workshops and master classes for keyboardists, particularly on Baroque and Classical Period Performance, and Keyboard Pedagogy. Baird has been a presenter and recitalist at both national and regional conventions of the American Guild of Organists, and for the Southeastern Historical Keyboard Society, the Western Early Keyboard Association, the Organ Historical Society, the Historical Keyboard Society, the Oregon Bach Festival, several chapters of the American Guild of Organists, and for piano teachers’ guilds in the United States and Australia. She is particularly known for her presentations on organ manual and pedal techniques for beginning organists, as well as New Organist workshops.

Future Events

On December 12, we will host our annual Messiah Sing, and in the new year we’re looking to feature a brass quintet, cello quartet, and blues ensemble. Dates for 2022 are still being set.

The Coulter Concert Series continues a long tradition of uplifting music here at St. John the Baptist, and these hour-long concerts are free to you and your friends because of your continuing support both through donations at the door and directed giving to the Church. In order to offer a safe space, we will be following Covid protocols, which may include vaccination, masking, and/or distancing. We’ll publish updates ahead of each concert. We look forward to seeing you!
